Dante Media Encryption is a security feature that protects audio and video data transmitted over Dante networks using AES-256 encryption. It ensures that media streams are safeguarded from interception or unauthorized access, making it ideal for secure AV-over-IP deployments.
AES-256 Encryption: Utilizes Advanced Encryption Standard with 256-bit keys, one of the most secure encryption methods available, to protect media flows end-to-end

How can I use Dante Media Encryption?
Encryption of the Dante audio streams is disabled by default for unmanaged networks. To enable encryption, your Dante enabled devices must be enrolled in a managed Dante network such as Dante Director.
- Ensure your Dante-enabled devices are up to date to the latest firmware that allows for AES-256 encryption.
- Dante Director: This management tool is essential for enabling and controlling encryption. It includes a built-in Key Management System (KMS).
- Dante Controller: Used for monitoring and configuring devices, including encryption status.
How can I unenroll my device from a managed Dante network?
If a device is still enrolled in a Dante Director site, but you have lost access to the Dante Director account for any reason (e.g. the account belongs to someone else; the device cannot be connected to the Internet), you need to clear its domain credentials before it can be deployed elsewhere.
Audinate provides two FAQ articles on solving that issue:
- How can I return my device to unmanaged mode?
- How can I use my device in DDM after it has previously been enrolled in Dante Director?
